Weekly Net

Net Information

Once a week, members of YARS and other amateur radio operators are invited to participate in a net. The net convenes on Mondays beginning at 8:30 p.m. on the K6MVR repeater, 147.000 - CTCSS 136.5, located on Mt. Vaca, above Vacaville.

Members of YARS regularly take turns as Net Control operators.

Net Control Script

This is a sample script showing the format of our weekly net.

Before the Net
Be sure to have a pen and paper for writing down callsigns. Also check that you can reach the repeater and have a well-charged battery. You should also know the date of the next club meeting. Remember to count all check ins for use later in the script.

Script:
"Good evening, this is (your name and callsign), net control for the Yolo County Amateur Radio Society Net on the K6MVR repeater. Please be advised that this net may be broken at any time for emergency or priority traffic. Is there any such traffic at this time?"

(pause - if anyone has priority traffic at any time, yield to them and continue the net afterward)

This net meets every Monday evening at 2030 hours local time on the K6MVR repeater. The repeater is on 147.000 mhz, negative offset, tone setting of 136.5, located on Mt. Vaca. Visitors and guests are always welcome to check into the net.

We will soon take check ins in groups by callsign suffix. First, I would like to call our president (add name and callsign) for any special annoucements. (President's name) are you there ?

(pause - let club president ramble on)

Now we will do regular check ins. Please give your callsign phonetically, with name and location.

(Alternative for the next section - some nets use a roll call for check in. YARS usually doesn't, but feel free to give it a try if you want)

Anyone with callsign suffixes beginning with Alpha to India, please check in now.

(take check ins - write down callsign and name, note if they have traffic)

Anyone with callsign suffixes beginning with Juliette to Romeo, please check in now.

(take check ins - write down callsign and name, note if they have traffic)

Anyone with callsign suffixes beginning with Sierra to Zulu, please check in now.

(take check ins - write down callsign and name, note if they have traffic)

Any late check ins or anyone that was missed, please check in now.

(take checkins - write down callsign and name, note if they have traffic)

Now we will call on stations with traffic for the net.

(call on stations in check in order for traffic, news, swaps, etc)

Is there any other traffic for the net, late check ins or anyone that was missed for the regular roundtable?

(pause, handle traffic)

The next meeting of the Yolo Amateur Radio Society will be on Tuesday (add date and month) at 7:30 PM at the Explorit! Center in Davis at 3141 Fifth Street. Further instructions can be found at http://www.yars.org.

I'd like to thank everyone for checking in tonight and also thank the Mount Vaca Repeater Club for the use of the repeater.

This is (your callsign) closing the YARS net on the K6MVR repeater at (time) with (number) check ins. The repeater is now open for normal usage.
