YARS and the UC Davis Department of Emergency/Business Continuity are co-sponsoring a one-day class for those interested in getting started in amateur radio with a technician class license.
When Is The Class?
Saturday June 13, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a Technician Class test session following at 4:00 p.m.
What Will I Learn?
The class will be directed towards preparing participants to take and pass the exams necessary for a "no-code" technician license. Subjects will include FCC rules, simple electronic theory, radio operating practices, and help with other facets of getting started in amateur radio. It is highly recommended that the book be read prior to class. Everything needed to pass the test is included in the video but it is a lot of information to retain in one sitting.
How Much Does It Cost?
The class cost will be $25.00, which includes lunch and one test.
Do I Need To Bring Anything?
It is recommended, but not required, that all students purchase a technician class licensing book prior to the class, and review it prior to attending. The book will not be used during the class, but will serve as an introduction to the materials the class will be covering, the test format and process, and as a good source for review after the class.
The following book would be a good choice:
"The ARRL Ham Radio License Manual" (First edition)
Publisher: The American Radio Relay League, Inc.
ISBN: 0-87259-963-9
[ Find it on the ARRL Website ] [ Find it on Amazon.com ]
For the test session, you will need to have 2 forms of I.D. - one of them is required to be a photo I.D.
You should also bring note paper and a pen or pencil.
Where Is The Class Held?
The class will be held at the UC Davis Emergency Operations Center on the UC Davis Campus. The Emergency Operations Center is located in the Transportation and Parking Services Building to the west of the Fire/Police Building (Directions)
